Young persons
A small dealership in Lincolnshire has just been fined £15,000 plus £9,000 prosecution costs after it was prosecuted by HSE and pleaded guilty.
Brake fluid was sprayed onto a running engine, the resulting fireball severely burnt a work experience student.
Be very aware that work experience is a high risk, and requires appropriate Risk Assessments to be carried out. The students need very thorough induction training, including making aware of the significant findings of risk assessments, it is also suggested constant close supervision is prudent.
Young persons are particularly at risk during their early employment period – see text within your system; Information – Personnel & Persons at Risk – Young Workers & Apprentices.
Also be aware young persons should not be exposed to toxic or carcinogenic materials.
